About Us
P.O. Box 607 ~ Buena Vista, VA 24416
We are an all-volunteer organization. Although The Buena Vista Colored School building is owned by the City of Buena Vista, they only maintain the grounds. We receive no continuing operating support from federal, state or local governments and have no wealthy benefactors. We rely on membership fees, fundraisers, and gifts and donations to support our preservation efforts.

There are many ways in which you can support the Society and help us achieve its goals:

~ Become a member - Help promote historical preservation in Buena Vista, including the upkeep and continued restoration of the Buena Vista Colored School by becoming a member of the Society. Membership is open to any individual or organization that supports our mission. The annual membership fee is $20.00 for individuals, $30.00 for a family,
and $2.00 for students who are actively enrolled in school or college. You can download a membership application and mail it to us with your payment.

~ Volunteer - There is so much to be done - We need your talents! We need people to work on the newsletter, help with the restoration, gather historical data, collect relevant memorabilia such as books, photographs, and artifacts, conduct oral histories, plan fund raisers, and motivate and involve others.

~ Donate - Your time, your donations, your services. The Buena Vista Colored School Historical Society is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and your donations are tax-deductible as allowable by the IRS.
